Research

SESM has the main objective to support Research and Development activities of the Shareholders (SELEX Sistemi Integrati and Galileo Avionica) and to manage research initiatives in cooperation with universities (within specific frame agreement stipulated at Finmeccanica corporate level).

Due to specific knowledge acquired in the fields of Open Source SW Development, security, safety and embedded systems, SESM is envolved by Selex-SI in sectorial studies and programmatic decisions.

A typical activity performed by SESM is the evaluation and changes proposals to third-party tools to make them qualified for ATC (Air Traffic Control) systems. The approved changes are brought to international advisory groups for standardization. This process is necessary to acquire an important advantage: having systems compliant from the beginning with international standards and using commercial solutions interoperable with other operators and also fitting the own necessities.
