Basic Research

New ideas, new inventions, new technologies are especially elaborated in the “academic” research world. It is therefore very important to transfer in effective and efficient way the results from the academic to the industrial world.

Various approaches and different models exist. SESM is the Research Centre in which it has been started an experimentation of FINMECCANICA model. It has been created a net of "public-private laboratories”, in which researchers from industry and university collaborate together, within offices organized on purpose.

This allows to have availability of qualified people for research activities, aware of specific company needs, assuring an advantageous osmosis for both the parts. The public-private laboratories are composed by doctorate students, coordinated by senior researchers from Industry and University. Such laboratories are displaced nearby the offices of Finmeccanica Group companies; they are organized in activity networks coordinated by SESM.

The laboratories network is currently articulated on five centers, (Rome, Giugliano, Genoa, Florence and Pisa), with 22 doctorate students, 16 professors/researchers and around 20 industrial researchers.
